India carried their league-stage dominance into the Super Four of the Asia Cup 2025 with a commanding win over Pakistan.
Match Analysis:
At the Dubai International Stadium, Pakistan, asked to bat first, posted a competitive 171 for five. But India made light work of the chase, cruising home with seven balls to spare to seal a six-wicket victory.
The change in the batting order worked for Pakistan as Fakhar Zaman (15:9b, 3x4), who opened the innings, came out all guns blazing with Sahibzada Farhan (58:45b, 5x4, 3x6), adding 21 runs for the opening stand.
Zaman perished to a controversial dismissal but that didn’t stop Farhan as he kept attacking Indian bowlers, hitting a brilliant half-century. He got support from Saim Ayub (21:17b, 1x4, 1x6) as the duo added 72 runs for the second wicket. But, India made a strong comeback after that by not only restricting runs but also taking wickets at regular intervals, leaving Pakistan at 115 for four.
Mohammad Nawaz (21:19b, 1x4, 1x6) and Faheem Ashraf (20 not out:8b, 1x4, 2x6) in the end scored some crucial runs as Pakistan ended up scoring 171 for five. For India, Shivam Dube picked up two wickets.
In the chase, Abhishek Sharma (74:39b, 6x4, 5x6) took India off to a flying start with the bat, hitting Shaheen Afridi for a six off the first ball.
Soon after that, Shubman Gill (47:28b, 8x4) joined him too as the Punjab boys were all over the Pakistan bowlers, adding 69 runs in the powerplay. Both the batters made a mockery of the opposition bowlers, hitting all of them to all the corners of the park.
The duo added 105 runs for the opening partnership. Pakistan made a slight comeback with quick wickets. Tilak Varma (30 not out:19b, 2x4, 2x6) played a brilliant hand as India sealed the game with six wickets.
