Iowa football vs. Rutgers highlights: Hawkeyes pull away late for win in Big Ten opener

Iowa grabbed control of a seesawing game late and escaped with a 38-28 road win over Rutgers on Friday night. It’s the Hawkeyes’ fifth straight win in the series.

After a rare first-half shootout that saw both teams put up 21 by the break, Iowa’s defense locked in for the second half. Despite a big night from Rutgers quarterback Athan Kaliakmanis, the Hawkeyes (3-1, 1-0 Big Ten) picked up a big Jaxon Rexroth interception in the fourth quarter to help slam the door.

Iowa quarterback Mark Gronowski had a season-high in passing yards and found the end zone three times on the ground. Kamari Moulton returned to lead the Iowa rushing attack with 14 carries for 68 yards and a touchdown. Kaden Wetjen kept the highlights coming with a 100-yard kick return TD on the opening boot.

Rutgers (3-1, 0-1) grabbed a 28-24 lead with 9:44 remaining, but Iowa answered back with the next 14 points to avoid stumbling in its Big Ten opener.

Here are the highlights.
