STILLWATER — Stand back. There’s a Golden Hurricane coming through and it’s leaving a once-proud Oklahoma State football program in its wake.
Former OSU running back Dominic Richardson ran roughshod over his old teammates to the tune of 146 yards on 31 carries as Tulsa stormed past OSU for a 19-12 win at Boone Pickens Stadium in Stillwater on Friday, Sept. 19.
Now questions and rumors about OSU coach Mike Gundy’s future will likely intensify as the 1-2 Cowboys head into Big 12 play next week at home against Baylor.
The Golden Hurricane had beaten the Cowboys 27 times in their 76 meetings, but Tulsa lost 10 straight against OSU since a home upset in 1998. The Golden Hurricane hadn’t won in Stillwater since a 35-7 rout in 1951.
Baylor Hayes completed 23 of 36 passes for 219 yards and a touchdown — to former Cowboy Braylin Presley — for the Golden Hurricane (2-2).
Zane Flores, who was making his second start at quarterback for OSU, went 25-of-40 passing for 214 yards and 56 rushing yards.

The Cowboys missed on a few big pass plays, including a third-down drop by Christian Fitzpatrick.
Mike Gundy opted to go for the field goal and make it a one-score game.
Logan Ward made that call work out, making a 49-yard field goal.

After taking over at their 9-yard line, the Cowboys found some offensive momentum with six consecutive positive plays.
However, a holding penalty on second-and-4 at the TU 44 by Bob Schick pushed the Pokes out of Tulsa territory.
The Cowboys punted two plays later.

Dominic Richardson opened the drive with a 39-yard run, but the Cowboys' defense held Tulsa from there, forcing a punt.

The Cowboys have their first touchdown against FBS competition this season.
Zane Flores plowed into the end zone on a fourth-and-1 shotgun run for a 5-yard touchdown to inch the Cowboys closer to the Golden Hurricane. However, he threw an interception on the 2-point attempt to keep it 19-9 Tulsa early in the fourth quarter.
Facing third-and-6, Gavin Freeman fought for first-down yardage along the sideline, but it was overturned on review that Freeman's knee was down a yard short.

In the closing minutes of the third quarter, Tulsa was finally forced to punt for the first time all day.
After stopping OSU on a fourth-down try at the 5-yard line, Tulsa couldn’t create any space. Dominic Richardson was tackled a yard short of the first down on a third-down run.

Facing fourth-and-1 at the Tulsa 5-yard line, OSU opted for a straight-ahead run with Rodney Fields Jr., but he was stuffed at the line of scrimmage.
OSU desperately needed a touchdown on the possession after taking over on the Tulsa side of the field.

OSU finally got a good break on defense, when Tulsa running back Dominic Richardson attempted to hurdle a defender and lost control of the ball and it was recovered by Dylan Smith.

OSU showed signs of offensive life, but the steam ran out and the Cowboys came up short on a fourth-down try.
Tulsa brought strong pressure, knowing OSU’s need to throw the ball. Flores got flushed from the pocket before he could attempt to throw the ball on fourth down.

Tulsa once again ventured to the OSU end of the field and settled for a field goal, another 47-yarder by Seth Morgan.
Tulsa has reached OSU’s end of the field on every possession, save the one in which it was running out the clock at the end of the first half.

OSU forced Tulsa to run out the second-quarter clock, but that didn’t soften the pain Cowboy fans were feeling after a miserable first half.
Boos came down from the bleachers of Boone Pickens Stadium as OSU players and coaches ran off the field, trailing Tulsa 16-3.
Tulsa ended the half with 266 yards, to 117 for OSU — 57 of which came on the opening drive. After that point, OSU failed to gain at least 20 yards on any possession.
And the defense struggled equally, leaving receivers open and failing to make tackles when players had opportunities.

OSU punted once again after a drive that included a dropped pass that would’ve created long yardage and a penalty that wiped good yardage off the board.
The Cowboys have just 117 yards on five possessions, with four punts and a field goal.

Tulsa moved into OSU territory for the fourth time in four possessions, but once again, OSU held for a field goal.
Tulsa’s Seth Morgan drilled a 47-yarder to extend the lead.
Tulsa went 41 yards in 10 plays before incompletions halted the drive. Morgan is 3 of 3 on field goals in the game.
